artist statement

As an artist and horticulturalist I am interested in the interrelationships between plants and humans, and the ways in which plant forms across different environments, both urban and rural, function as habitat, refuge and sanctuary for living organisms.

In urban spaces these environments include weedscapes as well as purpose-built parks and gardens. Architectural innovations in the built environment such as constructed biomimetic living surfaces which combine the plant sciences, ecology, engineering and architecture offer potential habitat diversity in the future.

Fernhills Conservation Park is a restoration project of an ex-grazing property in the Strathbogie ranges in rural Victoria with which I am also actively involved as an artist and conservationist.

Climate change is a great challenge to us all and artists can make important contributions by working collaboratively with communities and through interdisciplinary teams comprising scientists and other concerned professionals.
